Can You Be Addicted to Pepsi Max?

Can You Be Addicted to Pepsi Max?

There are various ingredients found in sodas that make them very delicious and refreshing to drink.

Pepsi Max is a version of Pepsi that has zero sugar.

Today, I will cover whether it’s possible to get addicted to Pepsi Max.

It’s possible to be addicted to Pepsi Max. Pepsi Max has caffeine, and studies have shown that caffeine is addictive.

Therefore, if you drink Pepsi Max, a certain percentage of people will find it difficult to stop unless they consume another drink with caffeine.

Another ingredient found in sodas that have been shown to be addictive is sugar.

But, because Pepsi Max doesn’t contain sugar, it is not what makes Pepsi Max addictive.

Below, I will cover if you can get withdrawals from Pepsi Max, what happens if you drink Pepsi Max every day and if it’s possible to get addicted to regular Pepsi.

Can You Get Withdrawals From Pepsi Max?

Can You Get Withdrawals From Pepsi Max?

There is a range of mild symptoms you can get, such as a headache but often it’s hard to know what the cause of it is.

Withdrawal symptoms from things like caffeine and sugar are known to happen.

But, here’s if it’s possible to get withdrawals from Pepsi Max.

Overall, you can get withdrawals from Pepsi Max.

Pepsi Max contains caffeine, which is known to produce withdrawal symptoms, such as fatigue if a person consumes it regularly.

The caffeine in Pepsi Max is slightly higher than regular Pepsi but contains half that of coffee.

The withdrawal symptoms from caffeine addiction are:

  • Fatigue
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Headache

Generally, a person will only feel withdrawal symptoms if they consume Pepsi Max regularly.

For example, if you drink it every day but then stop drinking it together.

And this study published in the Journal of Caffeine Research concluded that this is the main reason why caffeine and caffeinated beverages such as Pepsi Max are addictive.

However, if you only drink Pepsi Max every now and then, less than about 2 to 3 times per week, then it’s unlikely you will experience withdrawal symptoms.

Or, they will only be mild.

If a person experiences these withdrawal symptoms, they can be alleviated by consuming a small amount of coffee or soda that contains caffeine.

Therefore, if you drink Pepsi Max daily, it’s very likely you will experience the above symptoms unless you cut out all caffeine, or continue consuming caffeine. Interestingly, the caffeine content in Pepsi Max is reasonably low.

Here’s a list of how much caffeine is in Pepsi Max compared to regular Pepsi and coffee .

  • Regular Pepsi – 53 mg per 12 oz (360 mL)
  • Pepsi Max – 69 mg per 12 oz (360 mL)
  • Coffee – 136 mg per 12 oz (360 mL)

As you can see, Pepsi Max has about half the caffeine that coffee has. But, slightly more than regular Pepsi.

What Happens if You Drink Pepsi Max Everyday?

What Happens if You Drink Pepsi Max Everyday?

Pepsi Max is sold in a range of sizes and is available in canned and bottled form.

Therefore, it can be easy to grab a can of Pepsi Max, or have a glass very often throughout the day, or once a day.

But here is what happens if you drink Pepsi Max everyday.

In general, you can develop caffeine addiction from Pepsi Max if you drink it every day.

Caffeine is known to be addictive but is also found in other drinks such as regular Pepsi, coffee, and tea.

Pepsi Max contains about half the caffeine that a cup of coffee has.

Here’s a video from a Ph.D. Scientist where he explains the negative effects that caffeine can have:

The effects of caffeine addiction depend on how much Pepsi Max you drink.

A good ballpark figure is to consume no more than 1 glass, or one 12 oz can (360 mL) of Pepsi Max per day.

If the only source of caffeine you get is from Pepsi Max, then monitor how you feel after drinking it, and the next day to see if it starts producing the negative symptoms which lead to caffeine addiction.

When you do, then you may prefer to cut out Pepsi Max and go with a caffeine version of Pepsi.

Sugar Content in Pepsi Max compared to regular Pepsi

Regular Pepsi contains the recommended daily intake of sugar in 1.3 glasses or one 12 oz can (360 mL).

Most people will consume food that also contains sugar, such as chocolate, cakes, or donuts.

Therefore, chances are you will consume more than the recommended daily intake of sugar if you consume about one 12 oz can.

Therefore, in some ways, it’s best to consume less, especially if you drink it every day.

Or, like most people it’s a morning habit.

Pepsi Max contains no sugar; therefore, you can technically drink more.

However, to be within safe limits, it’s best to not consume more than one 12 oz can per day.

Instead of sugar, Pepsi Max uses artificial sweeteners such as aspartame.

The long-term effects of artificial sweeteners used in Pepsi Max are still being researched, and there currently are no scientific conclusions about the long-term effects of consuming them.

Therefore, it’s best to err on the side of caution.

Withdrawal symptoms are caused by drinking sodas regularly

If you consume a soda every few days, then typically, you won’t get withdrawal symptoms.

Withdrawal symptoms occur when a person consumes sodas every day.

However, the withdrawal symptoms can almost instantly be alleviated by consuming something else that has caffeine, such as a cup of coffee, tea, or drinking soda.

Does Pepsi Max Count As Water Intake?

Does Pepsi Max Count As Water Intake?

It’s well known that people should consume a decent amount of water each day.

Exactly how much depends on how much you weigh.

Water has a bland flavor, and drinking something like juice or soda is much nicer, but here’s whether Pepsi Max counts as water intake.

Overall, Pepsi Max does count as water intake.

Pepsi Max contains at least 90% water.

Therefore, 90% of your total Pepsi Max counts towards your daily water intake.

However, it’s not recommended to consume more than 1 cup of other types of Pepsi due to the sugar content.

Pepsi Max is a bit different because it contains no sugar.

Whereas 1 cup of regular Pepsi or other Pepsi sodas that contain sugar will cause you to reach the recommended daily sugar intake.

And doing so consistently is not recommended because it can lead to developing health conditions such as diabetes.

Is It Possible To Get Addicted to Regular Pepsi?

Is It Possible To Get Addicted to Regular Pepsi?

Regular Pepsi has a lower amount of caffeine than Pepsi Max.

But regular Pepsi is one of the most popular soft drinks in the world, so here is if it’s possible to get addicted to regular Pepsi.

It’s possible to get addicted to regular Pepsi.

Regular Pepsi contains two ingredients shown in studies to be addictive, sugar and caffeine.

If a person regularly consumes Pepsi, they can find it difficult not to consume it, and often have withdrawal symptoms such as a headache.

Or, they may need to replace it with something else that has sugar and caffeine, like a cup of coffee.

However, withdrawal symptoms typically only last a week at the most.

Therefore, if you do get addicted, it is not an issue, provided you don’t drink too much Pepsi per day.

Any more than 12 oz (360 mL) of Pepsi per day is not recommended.

Otherwise, you will consume too much sugar and more than the recommended daily sugar intake.

Consistent excessive sugar intake is known to cause:

These adverse effects also contribute to the risk of a heart attack.

On a typical day, most people will consume other foods and beverages that contain sugar, such as chocolate.

Some of these foods are also high in sugar.

If you consume them and drink a can of soda daily, it’s virtually guaranteed you will go over the recommended daily sugar intake.

Therefore, if you do like to consume sodas regularly, you should calculate how much sugar you consume.

That way, you can be sure you’re not consuming too much sugar daily, and can still enjoy sodas such as Pepsi.
